A Suffolk church is marking its 100th anniversary with a special exhibition featuring a Bible once owned by Elvis Presley. While the legendary musician struggled with substance abuse for years, he never lost his faith and carried the Bible with him through the years.

The Needham Market Evangelical Church is hosting the display through Friday, as reported by The Christian Post. Gary Stevens, the church’s pastor, told the BBC he reached out to the Museum of the Book in London after learning it had the Bible on display. The museum, known for its extensive collection of centuries-old printed Bibles, agreed to loan it for the event.

Among the notable features of Presley’s Bible are handwritten notes in the margins. “Under Psalm 11, he has written, ‘In the Lord I have placed my trust and he will guide me,’” Stevens said. “Under another Psalm he’s written, ‘Lord send me light to guide me,’ and other things we have like, ‘Deliver me for I am nothing without you.’”
Presley received the Bible as a Christmas gift in 1957 from his aunt and uncle, according to Stevens, who said the family verified its authenticity. Raised in Mississippi, Presley grew up in a Christian household and went on to record several Gospel hits.

Before his death in 1977, Presley earned 14 Grammy nominations and won three, all in Gospel categories. His rendition of the hymn “How Great Thou Art” earned him his first Grammy in 1967 for Best Sacred Performance according to Grammy.com.
