Here’s What the TV Cameras Aren’t Showing You

Empty Seats at Democratic National Convention

Watching the Democratic National Convention on television, most Americans are seeing a relatively well-scripted event in which party unity is, for the most part, on display.

But just outside the range of the camera lenses, another story is being told. Hundreds of seats at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia remain empty after supporters of U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) staged a walkout.

Speculation the Democratic National Committee had hired actors to fill in for the Sanders supporters—many of whom were protesting outside the convention arena—grew when a link to a Craigslist ad began circulating. The ad has since been removed by the website’s administrators, but a Sanders supporter has released a YouTube video in which he says he believes the paid actors claim is more than just a rumor.

Another video, posted from the convention floor by liberal documentarian Josh Fox, shows the empty seats after the walkout. Click here to see the video.
