Dr. Ray Self says there’s nothing more important than hearing what God has to say to you. But how are we going to follow Christ if we don’t recognize His voice? Early in his career, Dr. Self says his focus was on making money, being successful, trying to achieve material wealth. One day, he says he was driving down the road “minding my own business” and he heard God say, “Ray, I’ve called you into the ministry.”
Self says the calling came out of nowhere. It was completely random. He says, “It was something I wasn’t thinking about. It was nothing I had desired. It was nothing that was of me at all. And I heard it just as clear as day.”
He recognizes that years spent walking with the Lord have cultivated a keen sense in identifying when the Lord is speaking to him. But he acknowledges that, “God speaking audibly seems to be a very, very rare, rare moment in people’s lives.” But he says, “it changed my life. He changed my life.”
The beautiful reality is that the Lord wants to speak to you if you would only listen to His voice. And when you do, Dr. Self says, amazing things can happen. “You can look at your life right now, look at the circumstance that is going on,” he says. “Or rewind the tape of your life and look at your past and the things you’ve been through; you will see messages from God all over the place.”
