Author and financial adviser Dave Ramsey says when he was in his late 20s and made mistakes while trying to invest in real estate, the bank he owed money to took everything from him. He went from making about $200,000 per year to bankruptcy.
“We were sued so many times that the guy with the sheriff’s department that brings the lawsuit papers becomes a good friend,” Ramsey says. “We were foreclosed on, and with a brand-new baby, a toddler and our marriage hanging on by a thread, we were bankrupt. I was so scared I couldn’t breathe. …
“I learned about money in the Bible, and I started handling it that way. I would like to tell you that it was a miracle, and I just bounced back. I didn’t. At first, I sat around and blamed everybody else for my problems. … At some point, you’ve got to decide if you’re a victim or a victor. … I worked my tail off for 30 years, and now I’m an overnight success. God generally grows things slowly because He’s waiting on us to grow.”
