Kim Davis Shares What Hurt Her Most in Kentucky Gay-Marriage License Drama

c

Kentucky clerk Kim Davis’ ears burn with the comments attached to her reputation.

“I’ve been called things and names that I didn’t even say when I was in the world. Those names don’t hurt me,” Davis says in an interview. “What probably hurt me the worst is when someone tells me that my God does not love me or that my God is not happy with me, that I am a hypocrite of a Christian.”

Davis defied the Supreme Court’s marriage-equality ruling earlier this year. The Rowan County Clerk claimed “God’s authority,” and refused to issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples.

Police arrested Davis and detained her for six days, a move with which most Americans agreed.

“Most Americans say equality under the law trumps individual religious beliefs—a view that leads to broad support for requiring recalcitrant County Clerk Kim Davis to issue marriage licenses to gay and lesbian couples,” according to an ABC News/Washington Post poll report

According to the poll, 74 percent believe Davis should squash her religious beliefs and follow the law.
