Let’s All Help Lee Grady Help Suffering Women

Lee Grady and some of the women he is helping in India through the Mordecai Project.

I’ve known Lee Grady since 1981 and worked with him since 1992. I know his character and heart. I’ve also seen him grow from just a journalist to be a ministry leader whom God has raised up to help suffering women around the world.

Even though Lee left as the editor of Charisma in 2010, we have continued to work closely together. He writes a monthly column and a weekly blog. This month, we told his story in the March issue of Charisma. You can read part of the story below and the rest by clicking on the link.

It’s a powerful account of how Lee had responded when he saw women suffering and felt the Holy Spirit say “Why don’t you defend them?” In the process he’s become a modern-day Mordecai who helped Esther save the Jewish people.

When I learned of Lee’s need to build a girls’ home in India I offered to help focus on the need.

If you have appreciated J. Lee Grady’s contribution to Charisma in the past, please consider helping him as he works to confront gender-based violence all over the globe. Charisma Cares, the nonprofit partner ministry of Charisma, has set a goal to raise $100,000 of the $250,000 he needs to purchase a new building for the Mordecai’s House girls’ home in Tanuku, India.

“Our current facility is very small,” says Lee. “Our dream is to not only purchase a larger building but to establish a school for our 33 girls—and to make room for more. In India, many families do not believe girls are worth educating. We want our girls to demonstrate how vital it is for girls to excel in school and go to college—and eventually get good jobs. Educating girls is the secret to ending systemic poverty in the developing world!”

For 18 years Lee served as an editor at Charisma, and he continues to write his popular “Fire in My Bones” column for the magazine every month. If his work has blessed you over the years, please consider investing in his ministry.

Says Lee: “During my years at Charisma I wrote hundreds of articles about the movement of the Holy Spirit around the world. Now I am not just writing about it; I am going to the nations and seeing the transforming power of the Spirit. It is so special to have my Charisma family participating with me in this project!”

Here is the article in the March edition of Charisma telling the Mordecai Project’s story:

The Journalist Who Became

a Modern-Day Mordecai

By Diana Scimone

For two baby girls in India, life almost ended in a public trash bin. That’s where their parents dumped them right after they were born. Why? Because Noor and Parveen are girls—and in India, almost no one wants a girl. Girls are useless, not worthy of being educated, and on top of every other encumbrance, parents have to pay huge dowries when they marry. No wonder the greeting given to an Indian bride on her wedding day is, “May you be the mother of a hundred sons.”

In many parts of the world, when a girl is born families literally declare a day of mourning. Newborn girls are often buried alive, suffocated under blankets, thrown to wild animals, burned with acid, dropped down wells or …
