Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over. —Psalm 23:5
Psalm 23 is often called “The Shepherd’s Psalm,” because it describes the loving care the Lord provides for His flock. David said in the first verse, “The Lord is my Shepherd, I shall not want,” because you will never experience a need our heavenly Father will not supply.
David went on to say, “Thou anointest my head with oil” (v. 5). He was alluding to the way shepherds poured oil on the heads of their sheep before they were sent out to graze. The oil soaked into their wool; and if they happened to cut their heads on stones while grazing, the healing oil was already there to soothe and cleanse the wound.
God is not only the loving Jehovah-Rohi, (the Lord our Shepherd), He is also Jehovah-Jireh, the God of more than enough who provides for your every need before your need arises.
Imagine all of your enemies watching as God blesses and provides for you. They will witness the goodness and faithfulness of God poured out upon your life. Don’t worry about getting back or getting even with your enemies. It is enough that the Shepherd prepares a table for you in the presence of His enemies.
Thank you, Father, for the table that You are
preparing before my enemies. I exalt
