Living Proof first aired on Lifetime in October (breast cancer awareness month) and is based on the book Her-2 by Robert Bazell. This movie tells the story of cancer-fighting hero Dr. Dennis Slamon (Harry Connick Jr.). The UCLA oncologist helped develop Herceptin, an experimental drug that he hoped would become a revolutionary treatment against breast cancer. When funding for his project was cut, he didn’t quit, but for many years pushed to get the life-saving drug approved by the FDA.
This film chronicles the doctor’s journey to perfect the medicine, as well as the pain he faces knowing that although it will save many lives, it cannot save every life. Through this journey Slamon’s life takes on new meaning.
