October Baby

Pro-life drama October Baby came in at No. 8 over the weekend, when it competed with the release of The Hunger Games, which had the third-largest movie opening of all time. October Baby earned $4,405 per screen and an estimated $1.7 million from 390 locations, according to Box Office Mojo.

The movie—distributed by Samuel Goldwyn Films, which also distributed Fireproof, Facing the Giants and Amazing Gracewas released last October in just a few states, but released nationwide Friday.

The film follows a young woman who is the survivor of an attempted abortion as she searches for her birth mother who gave her up for adoption.

October Baby—which cost filmmaking brothers Jon and Andrew Erwin and American Family Studios $800,000 to make—is to expand its reach the weekend of April 13.

Starring newcomer Rachel Hendrix as Hannah, October Baby features John Schneider (Smallville, The Dukes of Hazzard) and Jasmine Guy (A Different World), along with Jason Burkey and American Idol finalist Chris Sligh in his feature film debut.

In support of the film’s theme, the producers have assigned 10 percent of its profits to the Every Life is Beautiful Fund to be distributed to organizations helping women face crisis pregnancies, adoption agencies and those caring for orphans.
