“Gay marriage… is that an issue that’s, for you, against the rules?” asked HuffPost Live host Marc Lamont Hill. “You know, it would be, but I don’t really focus on a lot of those things. I try to stay in my lane of what I feel called to do.
“That’s not my core message,” Osteen explained. Joel Osteen has been publicly criticized in the past for downplaying the issue of homosexuality. In this interview, Osteen noted that while his stance is the biblical one, he does not want to give the issue disproportionate focus within his ministry.
“It’s easy to take one issue, and to become known for that, or to let it sidetrack your message,” Osteen elaborated.
