ORU Students Trick or Treat for Syria Fundraiser

Instead of traditional trick-or-treating for candy, Oral Roberts University (ORU) students will go door to door collecting canned goods for the John 3:16 food pantry this Halloween. The annual ORU fall outreach has been collecting food for hungry families in the Tulsa area for more than 25 years.

ORU has also partnered with World Compassion’s “I am Syria” campaign. ORU students are working to raise $6,000 in order to feed 1,000 displaced Syrian refugees for one month.

The university is also working to provide turkeys for hungry families this Thanksgiving through a partnership with T.D. Williamson, a local oil pipeline equipment and service company. The oil company will donate two turkeys to the John 3:16 food pantry for every 100 canned goods collected by ORU students.

“The ORU community is thankful for the opportunity to partner with others to help those who are hungry and homeless in Tulsa and the struggling refugees in Syria,” says ORU Missions and Outreach Director Bobby Parks. “Our students, faculty and staff are passionate about helping people in need in the Tulsa community and around the world.”
