Rabbi Jonathan Cahn, best-selling author and prophetic voice, is issuing a sobering warning about the spiritual forces shaping the modern world. On a recent episode of the “Jim Bakker Family Show,” Cahn unveiled his newest book, The Avatar: The Return of the Ancients and the Future of America, calling it “the most explosive book I’ve ever written.”
So, what exactly is an avatar, and how does it relate to spiritual forces today?

“The word ‘avatar’ is not just about a cartoon or a game,” Cahn explained. “The word ‘avatar’ comes from the ancient world. It comes from Hinduism. And what it means is this: it means the gods are going to manifest through an incarnation. It means the god is going to come into the world, into a vessel, to manifest.”
According to Cahn, these so-called avatars are not mythological curiosities but spiritual realities that echo the biblical concept of the “shedim”—the spirits or principalities behind pagan gods. “Behind the gods are spirits,” he said. “The gods are nothing, but behind them are principalities, are spirits, and so the spirits are seeking vessels. The vessels are called avatars.”

Cahn shared how he has personally witnessed the power of these entities—and the greater power of God—in his travels. He recounted a dramatic ministry trip to India, where idol worship dominates the culture.
“They worship Krishna. Krishna is the god of destruction, and Krishna is the god of lust,” he said. “And Krishna manifests through avatars.” During one outreach, he recalled blowing the shofar as “thousands upon thousands of people started getting delivered. They started shrieking. They started manifesting. And they were set free.”
For Cahn, this moment points to a larger reality unfolding in the West today. “The gods are seeking avatars again,” he warned. “They are seeking vessels, and the vessels don’t even know what they’re doing. They think it’s their own idea, their own thing, but they are being used by spirits.”

He urged believers to recognize that today’s cultural and political battles are deeply spiritual at their core. “We are watching the gods return. The spirits are back. But so is the power of God,” he said. “The name of Jesus is greater than every avatar, every principality, every power.”
