Lee Strobel, former atheist turned investigative journalist, recently discussed his exploration of the supernatural in an interview with Tucker Carlson. Strobel described the reality of angels, demons, miracles and mystical experiences that challenge the conventional understanding of the unseen world.
Strobel emphasized that most people sense a spiritual reality beyond what science can measure. “There’s stuff that we can’t explain,” he said, “but it’s no less real for our inability to explain it.” His journalistic training drives him to seek corroborated evidence of miracles, near-death experiences, mystical dreams and angelic encounters, attempting to bridge intuitive belief with factual support.

Angels, Strobel explained, are spirit beings created by God before humans, highly intelligent and tasked with serving both God and His people. He pointed out that belief in angels is nearly universal across cultures, from the Mayans to the Canaanites. Strobel shared striking examples of angelic encounters, including the story of Scottish missionary John G. Paton, whose life was protected by unseen forces during a violent attack, and his own childhood vision at age 12, which later aligned with his understanding of salvation through God’s grace. These experiences, he argues, demonstrate the tangible presence of angels in human life.

Strobel also discussed demons as fallen angels led by Lucifer, whose pride resulted in his rebellion against God. While demons are active in the world, Strobel reassures that true Christians cannot be possessed due to the indwelling of the Holy Spirit. Christians, he explains, may experience oppression or harassment from demonic forces, but biblical principles such as rebuking Satan and relying on God’s protection offer safety and spiritual authority.
The investigative journalist further emphasized the importance of Scripture and prayer in spiritual protection. “Being familiar with the teachings of the Bible allows us to deter any attempts by Satan to lead us down a path that’s clearly not biblical,” Strobel noted.
In addition, Strobel addressed the supernatural gift of speaking in tongues, a practice often associated with the baptism of the Holy Spirit. “I believe it’s a gift that still takes place. I have not experienced that personally, but I have credible people who do and have experienced that,” Strobel says.
He explained that speaking in tongues is both a form of prayer and spiritual empowerment, providing believers with a direct line of communication with God that goes beyond human understanding. “It’s a spiritual language. It’s not Latin, it’s not Greek, it’s a spiritual language.”

Miracles, too, remain a crucial part of Strobel’s investigation. He cites research showing that nearly 40% of Americans report at least one life experience they can only explain as a miracle, illustrating the widespread human encounter with divine intervention. From healing and protection to visions and supernatural guidance, these phenomena, Strobel asserts, offer compelling evidence that the spiritual realm is active and real.
