On the surface, Halloween seems harmless—a day of fun and community. But beneath the surface, it carries a spiritual danger that Christian parents cannot ignore.
In an interview with Charisma Media, Riaan Swiegelaar, a former Satanist, noted how the founder of the Church of Satan, Anton LaVey, once said he was “so happy to see Christians… allowing their children to celebrate the devil one night of the year.”

Former witch, Jenny Weaver, also stated: “If you can get the young generation, you can get the world.” What parents may see as a harmless holiday, the enemy sees as an opportunity to open spiritual doors.

The symbolism surrounding Halloween is steeped in death, witchcraft and occult practices. From costumes to jack-o’-lanterns, each tradition has origins meant to appease or repel spirits—but participating in these rituals, even “innocently,” invites demonic influence into homes.
Swiegelaar emphasizes, “Anything to do with death, anything to do with the demonic… serves as a little lighthouse, a magnet for the demonic.” Candy, a seemingly sweet treat, is connected historically to practices that “sweetened children’s blood for spiritual purposes.” As Weaver also notes, police officers and emergency responders report Halloween as the day with the highest incidents of child abductions and violence, underscoring the danger children face.
Many Christians unknowingly compromise their children’s spiritual safety, thinking participation is harmless. Swiegelaar asks a critical question for every parent: “If you are bought with the blood of Christ… why would you act like you are still for sale?” Dressing children in costumes, attending trunk-or-treat events or celebrating with candy does not remove the original spiritual intent of the day.
Parents have a God-given responsibility to protect their children. Former Satanist, John Ramirez, also warns, “Halloween, trunk or treat, the harvest, you sign legal rights over to the devil.”
