In a powerful video, Vlad Savchuk discussed seven reasons Christians should avoid celebrating Halloween.
1. Halloween’s Roots Are Pagan
Savchuk begins by pulling back the curtain on the origins of this dark holiday.

“Halloween is an old Celtic festival that was called Samhain,” Savchuk says. “It was from October 31 to November 1. People believed that the spirit world and ours were closed during this time. In fact, they believed that the veil between our world and the spiritual world is the thinnest [during this time].”
While our culture has tried to sanitize it with costumes and candy, the roots remain deeply pagan and steeped in spiritual darkness.
2. Halloween Holds Deeper Darkness Than Most Realize
Savchuk warns that Halloween isn’t just a seasonal celebration—it’s a sacred ritual for those devoted to witchcraft and satanic practices.
“Many people who used to be in Satanism and occupied pretty high places would actually say that Halloween is a very big deal,” Savchuk says. Anton LaVey, the founder of the Church of Satan, even praised Christian parents for letting their children “worship the devil one night out of the year.”
3. Halloween Has Not Been Redeemed—it’s Hijacking Us
Some Christians argue that they’ve “redeemed” Halloween by adding Bible verses or church events—but Savchuk says the opposite is happening.

“The paganism and witchcraft is on the rise. It’s not a decline in our culture. We haven’t redeemed this. In fact, it’s hijacking us,” Savchuk says.
Instead of transforming darkness, believers are often being subtly transformed by it.
4. Halloween Conforms Us to Culture
Savchuk points out that Christians are not supposed to conform to the patterns of this world. Instead, our minds are to be renewed by Christ.
“We are called to change the world, not to conform to it,” Savchuk explains. “Daniel didn’t bow to the idols in order to fit into the Babylonian culture. We must engage with the culture, but we are not encouraged to imitate it. This world that we live in is our mission field, but we’re not called to try to appeal to it by being like it.”
Going after spiritual things without Christ is the same as taking part in demonic activities. When we entertain these things, we show an openness to evil being poured out on our society. However, this is not the way of the Holy Spirit.
5. Halloween Glorifies What Christianity Condemns
Fear, darkness and death are the foundation of Halloween—everything opposite to the kingdom of light.
“The Bible says that perfect love casts out fear. It doesn’t celebrate fear. Jesus is the light of the world, and we are called to be the reflection of His light in the dark and broken world,” Savchuk says. “The Word of God is light, and nothing about Christianity revolves around darkness. The only death we celebrate is Jesus’ death because it defeated the grave.”
6. Halloween Creates Fellowship With Evil
Savchuk asks believers to look around and be honest: does Halloween produce righteousness or darkness?
“Go to your local store and see what costumes are being presented and sold for Halloween. Nothing about it is righteous. Nothing about it is light. Nothing about it is love. Nothing about it is faith. It’s spookiness, it’s fear, it’s ghosts and it’s all haunted houses,” Savchuk states.

7. Halloween Dishonors Christ
Savchuk says Halloween promotes the debauchery and identity confusion already plaguing our world, making these issues worse instead of better.
“So much more of ungodly activities take place during this celebration. People get drunk, party and start using drugs,” Savchuk says.
As believers, we’re called to live sober-minded and Spirit-led—not caught up in the darkness of the world.
Halloween doesn’t point us to the light of Christ—it pulls us away from it. And as Savchuk reminds us, when the veil between worlds grows thin, it’s not time to play dress-up—it’s time to stand firm in the armor of God.
