Have you ever wondered what to do at moments of personal and undeserved crisis? What do you do when the very worst-case scenario imaginable has happened in your life?
We all deal with painful moments, with raw circumstances and with disappointing events, but what does a believer do when he or finds himself between the enemy and the deep Red Sea?
I read a quote this week that has impacted me greatly and has revolutionized what is an acceptable and even appropriate response during the days of ugly devastation in life.
“I do not care what the circumstances may be, the Christian should never be agitated, the Christian should never be beside himself, the Christian should never be at his wit’s end, should never be in a condition in which he feels as if he has lost … It implies a lack of trust and confidence in God.” —Dr. Martyn Lloyd-Jones
Do you agree or disagree with this powerful and convicting statement? The question remains, when we face tragedy or adversity, do we, as humans, have a “right” to be agitated or to feel defeated? Do we, as the children of the Most High God, have the “right” to complain and worry? Do we have His permission and even His blessing to spend time in worry or to ventilate our true emotions?
I must tell you, my friend, that I agree with Dr. Martyn Lloyd-Jones. I want to live my life in full-blown and enthusiastic trust and hope! I want to keep my eyes on the one who loves me, the only one who is in charge of my life and on the compassionate Father Who has all power.
It is in the Red Sea moments in life when God extends an invitation to His beloved children to trust Him. How will you RSVP?
It is in the Red Sea moments in life when the enemy extends an invitation to be afraid … to be very, very afraid. How will you RSVP?
I have decided, in light of Dr. Martyn Lloyd-Jones’ coaching, to throw the enemy’s invitation in the trash and to respond wholeheartedly and with pleasure to God. I will trust Him when my life is falling apart! I will honor Him with my emotions and with my mouth when dealing with days of cataclysmic circumstances.
“Call on Me in the day of trouble; I will deliver you, and you will glorify Me” (Ps. 50:15). {eoa}
