The Dangerous Disconnect Between Believing and Living

She is a wonderful woman, a good woman, a professional woman; she has great children and is a prayer warrior. She is a worker in the church and leads in ministry to other women. Her husband called and said, “I don’t know what to do. I can never be good enough for her. She is out of control in the way she talks to me.”

This is her second marriage. Sadly, this could be multitudes of Christian women’s stories in today’s culture. But I’m not sure it was much different in 60 A.D., when Paul wrote his letter to Titus, emphasizing the inseparable link between belief and behavior. Just like the woman in this example, this link was apparently not happening.

Clearly, Paul writes about Christian women, listing relational and domestic values that cannot be compromised while one is seeking godliness. He charges the experienced to take responsibility and pass these values on to the next generation—the older teaching the younger. When women train women by instruction and example, these biblical family values are sustained regardless of the laws that govern a nation. Generational and relational transference is unstoppable.

Why women? Although women may work outside of the home (Prov. 31:16, 18, 24), women are charged to be the primary caretakers of the home environment. Our power of influence will shape our world around us—our husbands and our children. You can see in this list of values two important categories: how we govern our personal lives and how we relate to others.

I took this responsibility to heart 10 years ago. Christian families were ravaged by divorce. I could tell them from the stage while speaking to multitudes, but I couldn’t show them how to make their homes places of love and peace. They had to experience it. More than 1,000 women have been in my home learning these virtues. Now they do the same for others in their own way. I call it the Home Experience revolution to restore the dignity and sanctity of the home. You can do this too. Meditate on these virtues and practice them daily. Share what you know with someone younger than you.

Prayer: Lord, thank You for clearly identifying what is important to You. I want my life to bring honor to Your Word. I willingly embrace the responsibility to diligently apply these virtues in my life. I want to be a godly example to others by the way I manage my home and love my family. I commit to keeping my heart pure before You and living obedient to Your Word in this passage.

Please give me the confidence and courage to give instruction to women who are younger than me.

Thank You for making my life and family stronger. I will always hold my home and family relationships in high value.
