As I was pondering this thought, what really happened in the Garden, the Lord spoke to my heart, “Eve did not value the Word of God.” Eve knew God’s Word regarding the tree, but in the end, she valued the serpent’s word over God’s Word and opened the door for deception to walk in.
Second Corinthians 11:3 tells us, “But I fear that somehow, as the serpent deceived Eve through his trickery, so your minds might be led astray from the simplicity that is in Christ. Satan’s only weapon in the Garden was deception, and it is still his only weapon. It is our responsibility as a child of God to keep the door closed to deception.
Two of the definitions for “word” in the dictionary is: A person’s principles or standards of behavior; one’s judgment of what is important in life. As a child of God, we must value God’s Word and also understand the importance of our words. Words are connectors. Words connect you with God and with people.
Proverbs 4:20-22 is a Scripture that clearly tells us the value of God’s Word in our life. “My son, give attention to my words; incline your ear to my sayings. Do not let them depart from your eyes; keep them in the midst of your heart; for they are life to those who find them, and health to all their body.” The Word of God is alive and powerful! It brings life to those who find it. As you read and meditate on the Word, asking the Holy Spirit to enlighten your understanding, God’s Word is anchored in your heart, and no devil can steal what is in your heart.
“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God . . . the Word became flesh and dwelt among us” (John 1:1,14). The spiritual became the natural. God came to us through His Word, His Son, Jesus Christ. He is still revealing Himself to us as the Holy Spirit opens the eyes of our understanding as we read and meditate the Word of Life. I call this the power of we. God is the power, and the Word in us activates that power!
God’s Word is the most valuable thing that we have. Our words carry the power and produce life or death. Proverbs 18:21, “Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruit.”
You don’t have to be concerned about words coming from your mouth; you need to be concerned about what is entering your heart, because “out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks!” (Matt. 12:34).
The key to remember is that God connects to us through words, and we are to connect to Him in the same way. “But what does it say? ‘The word is near you, in your mouth and in your heart.’ This is the word of faith that we preach: that if you confess with your mouth Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved, for with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation” (Rom. 10:8-10).
How powerful are your words? You connected from the natural to the spiritual, from death to life and from hell to heaven by the power of the words from your mouth! Your heart and mouth are connected. “Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in Your sight, O Lord, my strength and my Redeemer” (Ps. 19:14).
“Now the serpent was more subtle than any beat of the field which the Lord God had made. And he said to the woman, “Has God said, “You shall not eat of any tree of the garden?” (1 Pet. 5:8). We must not forget that our enemy also uses words. When the serpent approached Eve in the Garden to deceive her, he used words. He said to Eve, “Did God really say?” (Genesis 3:1, NIV). He will always twist God’s Word to plant seeds of doubt in your mind about God’s faithfulness and goodness. David has the answer as he tells us in Psalm 119:11 (MEV) “Your word I have hidden in my heart, that I might not sin against you.”
It is so easy to get caught up in life that we don’t think enough about our words and the power they carry. The Word of God is the key to your heart and your happiness. It is life to those who find it and health to your flesh. Think about it! {eoa}
