Are You Too Busy for a Bible Study?

Sue Edwards

Dallas Theological Seminary Professor Sue Edwards is passionate about women studying the Bible and understands the demands of life. To help women accomplish that New Year’s Resolution of studying the Bible, she has launched the “Discover Together Bible Study Series” (Kregel Publications) that hit the stores this month. Edwards is also launching the study over her Facebook page at Facebook.com/DiscoverTogether Series.

On January 30, the worldwide online bible study will start with the book of Revelation at 8pm EST. “I want to give busy women an opportunity to connect in an online community where they can ask questions and divulge what God is saying to them as they interact with His incredible Love Letter,” says Edwards. “I’m praying that God will draw women from all over the country, even around the globe, making the dialogue rich and provocative. Facebook seems the perfect media for us to connect.”

The Discover Together Bible Study Series includes six of Edwards’ popular studies (Psalms, Proverbs Volumes 1 & 2, Luke, Ephesians and I Peter) that have been reorganized and revised to be more reader-friendly for both personal and group reflection along with the completely new release on Revelation.

Each of the seven books is divided into weekly lessons and includes new inspirational sidebars and QR codes to take readers to supplemental teaching videos. Through short video clips, Edwards shares personal insights to enrich the Bible study experience and are meant to bless, encourage and challenge participants in their daily walk.

“The busier a woman is the more she needs God’s Word,” says Edwards. “I want to provide a place where these women can hear from me and others. Iron sharpens iron, and why not use technology to reach and teach one another?” In the weeks following the chat (February 4 – April 8), Edwards will post weekly on the Year of Discovery Facebook page and interact with groups and individuals around the country going through the devotional at the same time.

Women can discuss the study with each other and ask questions via Facebook. Once readers complete the Revelation study, Edwards will be going through the Ephesians study in the same way with an April 11 launch party. “And I’d love to reach women who are not plugged into a church but desire a spiritual community of women for encouragement and equipping,” says Edwards. “I’d love to reach those who don’t know Jesus with the wonderful news of the gospel. All are welcome even if they just want to kick the tires. There is no limit to the number of women who can participate. “

Sue Edwards is Assistant Professor of Christian Education at Dallas Theological Seminary. She is also an author and speaker.
