The Gift of Self-Sufficiency

Kim and Randy Tewshad it all—careers, a big house, an expensive car. They were living the American dream when they realized it meant nothing.

“It was all meaningless,” says Kim Tews, who now operates Outreach for World Hope (OWH), a nonprofit Christian organization she founded with her husband in 2005.

It all began with a family vacation to Mexico.  “We went over there and came face to face with living skeleton children. It wrecked us,” Tews says.

As a result, the Tews family started providing humanitarian aid, hope and compassion to families in the Chiquimula region of Guatemala.

One of the ministry goals is to give families the opportunity for self-sufficiency, giving them items for survival such as a vegetable garden, fruit trees and egg-laying hens.

The Tews started with 40 children and now serve 275 families in the program.

“We can’t save all the kids, but we can save the ones we can find in time,” Tews says.
