The word “miracle” is often misunderstood, misrepresented and misapplied in the world today. When I think about miracles, I’m reminded of Moses and the miracles brought to deliver his people from Pharaoh. Then I think of the miracle he experienced in parting the Red Sea. We see the miracles of Samson with his supernatural strength and Daniel being protected in the lion’s den. In the New Testament we are amazed at the miracles Jesus performed as He ministered to others.
Sadly, I hear fellow believers referring to miracles in reference to a shoe they were looking for when they were shopping or finding a tool they had misplaced. Please don’t misunderstand me. Finding that shoe or that tool is wonderful, but it’s far short of a divine miracle from God. Watering down the value of miracles leads many away from believing in them.
I choose to define the word “miracle” as “an event that is contrary to natural or scientific laws, something connected to divine activity.” To understand how miracles work, we need to have faith for these miracles. We need even greater faith today because of the amount of unbelief for miracles we see in the body of Christ.
As believers, we must call on the Holy Spirit to increase our faith to see a greater move of God to produce miracles for those in need. There is a process described in the Word of God to help us have greater faith for miracles. We can have faith like the great men and women of faith we read about in God’s Word. My prayer is that we will all understand how to experience the divine miracle-working power that God has in store for his people. {eoa}
