Jesus Instructs You to Speak to Your Mountain

Jesus instructed us to speak to our mountain: “For truly I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, ‘Be removed and be thrown into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that what he says will come to pass, he will have whatever he says” (Mark 11:23).

In this verse, He talks about the power of speaking to our mountains and having belief. He instructs us to “say.” Say means to utter aloud, express in words or give a chance to speak.

The Bible says, “Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruit” (Prov. 18:21). We can talk all day long to people, but when it comes to using our authority and speaking aloud to the spiritual atmosphere and our heavenly Father, we don’t embrace that death and life are in the power of the tongue.

Jesus spoke to things! He spoke to a fig tree. “When He saw a fig tree by the road, He went to it but found nothing on it except leaves. He said to it, ‘Let no fruit ever grow on you again.’ Immediately the fig tree withered away” (Matt. 21:19). The fig tree responded to what He said.

Jesus talked to things and taught that “whoever” could also speak to mountains. A mountain is mainly any obstacle that stands in the way of the believer. We cannot see mountains move out of the way in our lives if we pray, speak or decree with doubt or unbelief in our hearts. We have to speak and decree with faith. Faith activates the supernatural to happen! We must take authority when we pray in faith and speak to the mountains or call forth things to happen in faith, and they will happen in Jesus’ name.

To call forth means to call into existence and summon into action. Calling forth is what Jesus did to that fig tree. He summoned it into action and told it, “Let no fruit ever grow on you again.” I am sure there are things in your life that could stand to be called forth, such as, “I call forth doors to open on my behalf through which I can share my giftings and love of the Lord.”

Command is another powerful word to speak out! Jesus commanded the demons to get out of the man and go into the swine. In Matthew 8:32, Jesus said to them, “‘Go!’ And when they came out, they went into the herd of swine. And suddenly the whole herd of swine ran violently down a steep place into the sea, and perished in the waters.” He said, “Go.” Go is a command.

We will be faced with many obstacles throughout our Christian walk. Oftentimes, most believers pray to the Lord, and that is what we are called to do. However, Jesus commanded His disciples to speak directly to the obstacles and decree by commanding that it be removed. When the enemy comes in like a flood and there is something that is blocking your progress, healing, deliverance, advancement, breakthrough or blessing, then Jesus said you should command (decree) it to get out of the way.

What is blocking you from receiving a blessing? What do you need to speak out to get it to move? Our mouth is a secret weapon against the enemy. We can take authority over the spiritual realm and tell things to go such as:

I command sickness and disease in my body to go now in Jesus’ name.

I command no delays on my God-given assignments.

I command distractions in my life to go in Jesus’ name.

I command everything unproductive and unfruitful go now in the name of Jesus.

If you have been born again into God’s kingdom, then you are fully empowered to be successful and victorious in His kingdom. Everything starts with prayer, and one of the power tools of prayer is our ability to speak to the mountain and make a decree. Speaking to your mountain and making a decree causes the blessings of heaven to be released from heavenly places in our natural realm.

I encourage you to speak to your situation today and command those mountains that are preventing you from overcoming and serving God to go now in Jesus’ name.
