We know that spiritual warfare is all around us. However, we must be careful not to engage in spiritual warfare without being protected, that is a very dangerous move. This is what the armor of God is all about. But there is something that many people miss in the armor.
Ephesians 6:14a (NKJV) says, “Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth.” We must understand this truth. The truth is Jesus—Yeshua Hamashiach—paid the price for you to enter into a covenant relationship with the Lord. Jesus died so that you would have access to the covenant promises—all of them—of divine protection and authority.
You are a covenant-created individual with spiritual rights and benefits you receive as a son or daughter of the King.
Furthermore, you become part of a family. You become part of the One New Man, united in Christ, according to Ephesians 2:14-19, 22:
For He Himself is our peace, who has made both one, and has broken down the middle wall of separation, having abolished in His flesh the enmity, that is, the law of commandments contained in ordinances, so as to create in Himself one new man from the two, thus making peace, and that He might reconcile them both to God in one body through the cross, thereby putting to death the enmity. And He came and preached peace to you who were afar off and to those who were near. For through Him we both have access by one Spirit to the Father… you are no longer strangers and foreigners, but fellow citizens with the saints and members of the household of God … in whom you also are being built together for a dwelling place of God in the Spirit (author emphasis added).
Being United as One New Man for Spiritual Warfare
Paul writes earlier in Ephesians 2, that Gentile believers were once aliens from the commonwealth of Israel. Gentiles had none of the Jewish covenant promises or laws. They were foreigners to Israel’s amazing and incredible heritage that released blessings and promised hope.
But all of that changed when the middle wall of separation was broken down by Yeshua—Jesus—making a way for covenant peace to be poured out as we stand together under an open heaven.
In other words, our heavenly Father opens up the windows of heaven, releasing His blessings upon us, when we enter into a covenant with Him and declare His Word, because His Word does not come back void.
When Jew and Gentile became united as One New Man in Christ, the Gentiles were adopted into the family of God, having the same benefit package and blessings as the Jews.
One did not replace the other.
When the two first born—literal and spiritual—come together as One New Man, the Lord will do exceedingly and abundantly above all we can ask or think.
This is the revelation and understanding needed to enter into spiritual warfare with confidence.
This is the covenant of unity. As Psalm 133:1 (TPT) says: “How truly wonderful and delightful it is to see brothers and sisters living together in sweet unity!”
When we come together as One New Man, God commands a blessing. And when we are in unity under His robe of righteousness and His armor, we are fully protected because of His covenant.
As a covenant-created being, and as part of the family of God, we have to know how to prepare and what to watch out for in spiritual warfare.
First, we prepare, as one who is in covenant with God, by being aware of the covenant promises and speaking them to the Lord, reminding Him that we remember them. This is what God meant when He said: “Put Me in remembrance; let us content together; state your case, that you may be acquitted” (Isa. 43:26, NKJV).
He wants us to know and recall the covenantal terms and blessings that are available to us. And again, we have those because Christ paid the price, grafting us into His family and giving us access to their inheritance.
As a One New Man believer, you begin to understand how spiritually deep your family roots are. They go beyond the Garden, reaching into eternity.
Second, we move forward knowing God’s Word is unchangeable. He wants us to know and remember His covenant so that we do not battle with uncertainty.
Entering into powerful prayer, declaring the covenant promises you’ve inherited as One New Man—a new creation in Christ—you now have a spiritually legal right to claim victory.
Third, as mentioned, be aware of how you battle. Don’t go out looking for spiritual warfare, rather, seek the kingdom of God and His righteousness first. Run to your Abba Father, knowing He is the covenant-keeping God who cannot lie and who promises to protect you. Call upon this covenant.
The Word of God says that Jesus fulfilled all the requirements so that the blessings of divine protection and authority, protection from enemies and an increase of inheritance (just to name a few) could be yours.
