Right now, many believers are facing tough times. They are faced with trials of many kinds: spiritual, physical, relational and financial. These trials are all circumstances that introduce resistance into our lives. And, as the body of Christ, we must make a conscious effort to speak to those trials using God’s Word. It is then that we will overcome them.
I believe that the story of Caleb in Joshua 14 contains a prophetic word for us today. As you study Caleb, you find that he went through a number of tests and trials. The reality is that there was a spiritual battle going on between what God said in the spirit and what was happening in the physical realm. We are constantly being tempted by the enemy to believe the physical over the spiritual.
Caleb always had a choice of which realm he would come into agreement with, and so do we.
— Would he believe God’s Word (spiritual), or would he believe the bad report of his fellow Israelites (physical)?
— Would he believe God’s Word, knowing that God cannot lie, or would he believe that the delay of a promise (45 years) meant that God would not deliver?
We are always faced with a choice when it comes to trials. But the truth is God wants us to:
— Know that the trials we are facing have a purpose to bring about a promise and to increase our faith.
— See the value in these trials. Instead of looking at them as something standing in our way, we can choose to look at them as a way for God’s glory to be manifested through us.
— Feel the power and strength to overcome them, so our lives are forever changed.
You see, through these trials are lessons that will build our character and increase our faith. We must mine those lessons like we are mining out gold from deep within a mountain.
Just as you battle in the spirit, you need to mine in the spirit. Change the way you look at trials—from mountains standing in your way to mountains the Lord gives you as inheritance, so He will be glorified.
We do that by taking God at His Word—nothing more and nothing less—and proclaiming it in the courts of heaven.
When you wholly follow the Lord, just as Caleb did, you believe His promises and see the possibilities on the other side.
Living by biblical principles does take discipline, but we make it much harder than it needs to be. Remember, Yeshua said His burden is light. There are simple steps you can take today to align with God’s Word for victory and to receive the promise.
Yeshua didn’t say you wouldn’t face trials, but He did say that through His strength, you will see how to prosper in these times. Through covenant understanding, the Spirit of God will reveal your responsibility and guide your steps as you move into tough territory in your faith journey.
