South Korea Bans Sending Bibles by Balloon Into North Korea

A new law in South Korea is giving staff and volunteers with The Voice of the Martyrs ministry another reason to pray. Since 2005, the ministry has used balloons as a primary way of getting Bibles and other Christian materials into North Korea. VOM has delivered about 600,000 Bibles to the southern portion of North Korea by balloon.

The law criminalizes using balloons to fly anything considered “anti-North Korean material” into what is often referred to as the Hermit Kingdom, according to VOM. The ban takes effect in March.

Violators could face up to three years in prison or 30 million won (U.S. $27,400) in fines.

Watch this 4-minute video as VOM Canada’s Greg Musselman speaks with Dr. Eric Foley, the CEO of The Voice of the Martyrs Korea, to find out how this new law will affect sharing the gospel in North Korea. {eoa}
