What or who are you focusing on as the world appears to spin out of human control? Erin Olson, host of The Depot Podcast on the Charisma Podcast Network, believes that far too many people are focusing on the problems of the world instead of focusing on the people of the world.
“People create problems,” she says, “so it is people we need to be speaking to, instead of speaking about problems. Problems will not change unless people change.”
Spiritual orphans is a term the Holy Spirit laid on Erin’s heart a few years ago, and her book, Spiritual Orphans: A Generation in Crisis, was birthed. Spiritual orphans are people who are not adopted into the family of God through a saving faith in Jesus Christ. According to Ephesians 1:5, “He predestined us to adoption as sons to Himself through Jesus Christ according to the good pleasure of His will” because He loves each one of us that much. However, far too many people have ignored this adoption process, and thus, our world and our communities are spiraling out of control.
The church has a tremendous opportunity during chaotic times to stand up and be a mouthpiece for God. We are not called to hand out judgment. Instead, we are called to love God and love others. “Love” can be translated as “serve”—serve God, and serve others. We can serve and love through not only our actions but also our words. {eoa}
Erin Olson recently launched a multi-part series on The Depot Podcast regarding spiritual orphans. You can listen to more of what she has to say about how we as the church can respond in the episodes on the Charisma Podcast Network here.
