It’s absolutely necessary to surround yourself with people who inspire you to do more and be more than you ever thought possible. The book of Numbers describes a man named Caleb with a “different spirit.” The original language more directly translates to “wholehearted.” You know you’ve been in the presence of a wholehearted person because their passion is contagious! The biblical Caleb ended up being a catalyst alongside Israel’s leader, Joshua, to take a nation into the promised land. When most others saw the impossibility of a giant-infested territory, Caleb saw an opportunity for God to show up and show off. He didn’t have one shred of doubt in his being. He was wholehearted.
Divine appointments are always disguised as impossible situations. Stop being so easily discouraged, and start seeing pressure as a privilege. The destination that God has for you is absolutely outside of your current reach. It is bigger than your current bank account. It is bigger than your current circle of supporters. God will always give you a dream big enough to keep you dependent on Him and the relationships He appoints to advance you. You can see the way that God orchestrates divine appointments in the story of Joshua and Caleb. They had a synergistic relationship. They were like-minded. They were aligned in certainty that anything was possible through their unity and God’s favor.
Whenever you find yourself in a situation that seems to contradict your destiny, know that God may be using it to bring a Caleb to you. It was the prospect of dying in the promised land of Canaan that solicited the resolve of Caleb to emerge. True relationship is forged in adversity. When things get hard, keep your eyes open for the wholehearted ones in your midst.
I was driving through the cornfields of Northwest Indiana with a dream inside of me to launch a New York City church. Everything about my dream defied my surroundings. It was an expensive, irrational and seemingly impossible dream. I had faith, but I needed to join my faith with someone who wasn’t focused on the giants of fear inhabiting New York, but rather, the provision waiting on the other side of radical obedience. I was not-so-randomly connected to Anthony Spark, a New York entrepreneur and visionary leader. What seemed like the most insurmountable dream to me was more than possible to him. Anthony Spark was wholehearted. Within the next year, we would raise the money, build the team, move my family and I across the country, and launch V1 Church.
You will receive the dream before the relationships, before the provision and before the open doors. Don’t miss the divine appointments in disguise! You can listen to Anthony and I discuss this and more on the Mike Signorelli podcast or watch here.
