When Jesus died on the cross of Calvary, He forged a way for us to be in relationship with our Almighty God. This deep and far-reaching action also meant that mankind could be healed of every illness and disease; that includes anyone diagnosed as being on the spectrum with autism, Asperger’s and obsessive-compulsive disorder.
We are reminded in the Word of God that Jesus bore our sins in His own body, and by His wounding and the power of His blood we are healed. But the enemy, along with our own inner doubts and fears, will try and stop us from receiving the God-given healing we have obtained through Christ. For this reason, we must stand on these words in 2 Timothy 1:7, “For God has not given us the spirit of fear, but of power, and love, and self-control.”
You see, when we come under the power of God, not only does He start to transform our lives, but the enemy will also rise to oppose every good thing that God is doing.
I remember as a new Christian reading a book by Kenneth E. Hagin about the healing power we could have through the blood and the wounds of Jesus. I recall my parents confessing the words of 1 Peter 2:24 (ESV) over our family, “He himself bore our sins in His body on the tree, so that we might die to sin and live to righteousness. By his wounds you have been healed.”
Over and over, they would confess healing by the blood of Jesus and from the wounds of Jesus. I believe these powerful, life-altering words in 1 Peter 2:24 confessed over me daily were hugely instrumental in bringing about my total healing: “By His wounds you have been healed.”
We all know God is in the business of healing, but there are things that may hinder that process. In my case it was the spirit of fear tormenting me to the point of insanity throughout my young life, the opposite of the truth of 2 Timothy 1:7. I was full of fear, lacked the power of the Holy Spirit and struggled with uncontrollable actions. If you have lived with the spirit of fear, you know it has the propensity to affect every area of your life.
As God became more prominent in my life, however, things began to change. I was first healed of the autism, but I had other things going on, including obsessive-compulsive disorder.
The Bible reminds us that God is the author and finisher of our faith (Heb. 12:2), and when the power from the Holy Spirit is in your life, along with love and self-control, everything else must leave. This meant that the obsessive-compulsive disorder—with all its uncontrollable behaviors and confusion—had to leave, and it did!
When Jesus fulfilled His God-given purpose and went to the cross, He was fully aware of every fear, pain, agony and torment we go through. In the Garden of Gethsemane, He said to the Father, “if you are willing, remove this cup from me. Nevertheless, not my will, but yours, be done” (Luke 22:42).
Proverbs 18:21 says our tongue carries life and death, and when Peter makes the profound statement in 1 Peter 2:24 that “by His wounds you have been healed,” he professed and confessed life. When we confess the Word of God, we receive a profound amount of Holy Spirit-inspired power over our lives. I encourage every parent to start doing this today!
