God doesn’t need us to accomplish His purposes, but He loves to accomplish His purposes in and through us. We don’t have to be a pastor, teacher, leader or theologian. In fact, the more you read through the Bible, the more you see how he chose insignificant, and sometimes nameless, individuals who simply stepped out in faith and followed in obedience.
Part of what transformed my prayer life was learning to pray Jesus’ prayers for myself and for whomever I prayed using a simple prayer strategy called The Prayer Covenant, a Christ-centered, Scripture-based prayer. When we intentionally pray the will of God over ourselves and those for whom we pray, He shows up fast, and He shows up powerfully.
I’m not sure there is a more beautiful expression of showing our love for Jesus and for one another than through prayer. When we pray, we give ourselves fully to Jesus. We trust Him to accomplish great things in and through us. We recognize His sovereign authority. When we spend time in the presence of Jesus, intentionally praying all He desires for us, we experience answers to prayer.
What a privilege we have to boldly approach God’s throne! Paul shares, “since the day we heard about you, we have not stopped praying for you” (Col. 1:9a, NIV). Prayer covenants are a wonderful way to pray effectively for others. They are an invitation to see the power of God in and through your prayers, to experience powerful answers to prayer and transformation through prayer. Whether it be a few minutes or hours, prayer is life-giving and fills us with hope because we are in the presence of the greatest hope-giver.
