For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith goodness; and to goodness, knowledge; and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness; and to godliness, brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness, love. —2 Peter 1:5-7
Goodness. We need to genuinely care for the needs of others and, therefore, we should seek to be willing to show that care to them in practical ways on the heels of praying for them. We may not have the resources ourselves, but maybe we know others who might, to whom we can direct them. We must seek to break the cycles of injustice in people’s lives rather than perpetuate them, especially in the name of serving the Lord. Also, we must never take advantage of the sacred trust that others are giving us when they make themselves vulnerable by allowing us to pray for them. Evil things, behind the guise of ministry, have been perpetrated on vulnerable people before in the history of Christianity. Let us make sure that we don’t add to the list.
{ PRAYER STARTER }
Father, there is so much injustice in our world today. Help me to show Your goodness and to handle carefully the sacred trust You have placed in me to lead others by Your goodness to Your loving Son’s salvation.
We must seek to break the cycles of injustice in
people’s lives rather than perpetuate them,
especially in the name of serving the Lord.
