God called to him from within the bush, “Moses! Moses!” And Moses said, “Here I am.” “Do not come any closer,” God said. “Take off your sandals, for the place where you are standing is holy ground.” Then he said, “I am the God of your father, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob.” At this, Moses hid his face, because he was afraid to look at God. —Exodus 3:4-6
In Old Testament times, whenever God appeared to men, an overwhelming sense of terror and dread was the result. In contrast, many in our day are so blind to God’s transcendence that they show shocking disregard for Him. If people are unaware of God’s terrifying supremacy that transcends the universe and time itself, they will have little fear of Him. If we have no fear of God, nor the fear of consequences, then we will easily break His commands.
{ PRAYER STARTER }
Father God, I stand in awe of Your power and might. Teach me to have a holy, reverential fear of Your glory so that my life will be lived in purity and holiness.
The downward spiral of morality in our society is directly
proportional to the loss of our understanding
of the greatness of God.
