Christian rock band Skillet, formed in 1996, grew in popularity in completely unexpected ways. What fans may not know, however, is how lead guitarist Ben Kasica got started with them and how that platform ultimately launched him into God’s plan for his life in the entertainment industry. Join host Shawn Bolz on this episode of Exploring the Prophetic as he learns about the humble beginnings of Skillet’s Ben Kasica.
On his early childhood, Kasica remarks, “I was just a kid from St. Louis that loved Jesus.”
Shawn Bolz comments on how Kasica went from being a Skillet fan to later auditioning as a 16-year-old kid, only to be accepted and start touring just two weeks later. Ben Kasica reflects on the impact that the band had not only on his life but on the way he saw it impacting others. He says, “We would get messages … People that would say, ‘Never heard of you guys,’ you know, ‘I’m not a Christian’ or I wasn’t a Christian and I’ve struggled with cutting or depression, and I was literally going to go commit suicide, and your song popped on the radio, and for the first time in my life, I knew that God loved me’ or ‘I knew that my life had purpose.'”
Shawn Bolz adds a poignant comment: “They followed you guys, not just as fans, but because you guys gave them language of freedom.”
A member of Kasica’s church ultimately prophesied over the next step in his life as he transitioned away from Skillet after 10 years of involvement. Kasica says she told him and his wife, “‘I believe you’re going to move to L.A., you’re going to go to Expression 58 and you’re going to meet people that are going to support and surround you and what God’s called you to do in life.’
“And at that point, the Holy Spirit just wrecked me,” Kasica said. “I’m weeping and, and I just knew. I’m like, this is so good. Like this is just happening.”
Kasica and his wife, Caitlyn, made the leap into the next season of their life in California after a second prophetic confirmation. The rest of the story points to the amazing work of the Lord in their life. Don’t miss the rest of the story in the full podcast.
