2 Chronicles 32:1-33:13 For years my husband and I did not have daily prayer together. In fact, we had been married twenty-five years before we started praying together daily. Of course, we did pray for things as they came up, but usually we had our own quiet time with God individually. During those years, however, I had a very special prayer partner. Her name was Zira, our precious little dog. Every morning she would crawl up in my lap and sit quietly as I prayed to the Lord. I often opened my eyes slightly to see what she was doing. Every time I did this, I saw Zira looking up to heaven. I believe Zira could see my angels watching over me. I am convinced that small infants and animals are able to see into the spirit realm. God gives a few of His saints this ability, but in His mercy He usually chooses not to reveal to us what is all around us in the spirit realm. We probably would be frightened if we had this ability.

In our passage today, Assyrians far outnumbered Judah and surrounded Hezekiah. Hezekiah was not afraid, however, and made the following statement to his army: “Be strong and courageous; be not afraid nor dismayed for the king of Assyria, nor for all the multitude that is with him, for there be more with us than with him: With him is an arm of flesh; but with us is the Lord our God to help us, and to fight our battles. And the people rested themselves upon the words of Hezekiah king of Judah” (32:7-8, KJV).

Hezekiah was given the supernatural revelation of the mighty army of angels who were on his side. This is why he could say there were more with his army than with Sennacherib, king of Assyria. The Lord truly is on our side, and He is ready to fight every battle for us. Even though we cannot see them, angels surround us. In the Book of Psalms we learn that the angels of the Lord are encamped round about those who fear the Lord.

Later in this passage we see where the Lord sent an angel to cut off all the mighty men of valor and the leaders and captains in the camp of the king of Assyria (33:21). It only took one angel to put to flight the mighty army of Assyrians.

During the Six-Day War in Israel, Egypt suddenly retreated. An Egyptian soldier was asked why Egypt ceased their progress, and he shared, “Our armies saw mighty armies all dressed in white and we were afraid.” God’s arm is always stronger than the arm of flesh, and He is ready to do battle for us. At His disposal are two-thirds of all the angels in heaven. Satan only gained one-third of the angels when he fell. Our angels far outnumber his.

We too can be strong and courageous and not dismayed every day if we will only remember, there are more with us than with our enemy. If God be for us, who can win against us?
