Acts 18:1-21 The red and yellow poppies shook gently in the breeze under a postcard blue sky as we looked upon the ruins of Corinth. Once a great city where Paul spent over a year and a half, it now was covered with a field of poppies. We were spending some time in Greece just after our tour to Israel. As I looked at what was left of Corinth, I understood why Paul spent so much time there. It must have been a beautiful city. We actually saw the judgment seat area where Gallio drove the Jews from his presence.

Even though Paul met with much opposition from some of the religious Jews in the city, God had His people on the scene. The Lord told Paul that He had many who believed in Him in that city. I am sure this encouraged Paul.

Do you know the condition of your city? Are there many believers in your city? My heart was strengthened when I saw the leaders of my city testify to their belief in Jesus at a memorial service for a policeman killed in the line of duty. I heard the mayor of the city and the sheriff of the county tell of their love for Jesus. I wanted to shout. In our city people are meeting to pray for our city on a regular basis, and we are beginning to see the fruits of these prayers. There were probably people meeting in the city of Corinth to pray, and Paul had not even met them yet.

This morning as you pray, remember to pray for the leaders of your city and for its citizens. Pray for revival in your city. God hears these prayers, and He will increase the number of believers in your city if you will faithfully pray for it. Join me this morning as I pray:

Lord, forgive me for when I have failed to pray for my city. You want this city to be a city set on a hill, a city filled with believers. I pray for every laborer in my city who is ministering in some way to the needy, down-trodden, and even to those in high positions politically and economically. May the believers increase in this city and send revival to those who already believe.
