Cahn points out that these ancient gods could only return by casting out that by which they had themselves been cast out: the Spirit of God.
“As the gods had been driven out of the mainstream culture of the ancient world, they would now seek to drive God and those who followed Him out of the mainstream of modern culture,” Cahn writes. “As the gods had once been driven to the margins and shadows of their culture, they would now seek to drive Christians to the margins, to the shadows, to the closets and catacombs of modern culture.”
How would these ancient beings achieve this goal?
“They would seek to gain control of the young,” Cahn writes. “And they would do so through the media, television, the internet, and the classroom. At the same time, the gods would attack the transmission of the Christian faith from parent to child and from teacher to student in Christian schools and universities. As they had once been cut off from influencing the young and cast out by a new generation, the gods would now seek to cut off the young from the Christian faith and to use the new generation to cast out the Christian faith and bring Judeo-Christian civilization to an end.”
But there is hope for those who stand strong in the Lord, according to Cahn.
“All who are called by His name can take encouragement, heart, strength, hope and courage to live unbowed in the face of the gods,” Cahn explains. “It is time to be strong and of good courage. It is time to be bold. It is time to let go of all fear and concern and to take a stand against the darkness and for the light.
“The darkness will end, but the light will be forever. And so as it is written, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might, for greater, much greater, is He who is in you than he who is in the world.”
