At the 1985 Signs & Wonders Conference, John Wimber condemned Christians who call sickness “the will of God” or offer trite cliches to people in pain. Wimber says, “These platitudes, uttered usually with sonorous religious tones, are an abomination to a God of mercy and love.” Instead, he says, Jesus saw it was the work of the devil and fought back.
