When you feel spiritually dry, the enemy tries to push your emotional buttons. Spiritual dryness can cause you to give in and come into agreement with vain imaginations and familiar spirits.
How you manage your emotional response when your buttons are pushed will determine the path you take. The truth is the enemy will always use your past against you. His philosophy is that “if it worked once, it could work again.” But the more you walk in the Spirit when you are emotionally charged, the more you will be spiritually refreshed.
There are a number of things that can cause you to feel spiritually dry. We’re going to look at the four main ones:
- Doubt and unbelief
- Pride
- Fear
- Anger
Doubt and Unbelief Cause Spiritual Dryness
Doubt and unbelief typically come from an orphan spirit. An orphan spirit is a type of spirit that invades a person’s mind, causing a sense of abandonment that produces doubt and unbelief. The way to battle in prayer is to:
- Repent and confess that this spirit has infiltrated your thought life and impacts the way you speak.
- Renounce the spirit by the blood of Yeshua.
- Proclaim your identity as a son or daughter in the courts of heaven.
“But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea driven and tossed by the wind. For let not that man suppose that he will receive anything from the Lord; he is a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways” (James 1:6-8).
Pride Causes Spiritual Dryness
Pride comes from a performance-based spirit. It creates a thought life that says, “If I do this or that, people will like me, love me and accept me.” The way to battle in prayer is to:
- Repent and confess that the spirit of pride has entered your thought life and has impacted the words you have spoken.
- Renounce the spirit by the blood of Yeshua.
- Proclaim the unconditional love of the Father released upon you because of Yeshua.
“God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble” (James 4:6).
Fear Causes Spiritual Dryness
Fear often comes from a spirit of rejection. It is an assignment that can cause you to think you are missing out on, will lose or don’t have enough of something. It is on a mission to deceive you. Fear comes from past experiences and false messages. The way to battle in prayer is to:
- Repent and confess that fear has infiltrated your thought life and impacted how you speak.
- Renounce the spirit by the blood of Yeshua.
- Proclaim your identity and provision in the courts of heaven.
“For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind” (2 Tim. 1:7).
Anger Causes Spiritual Dryness
Anger comes from a spirit of murder. In short, the spirit of anger has an assignment of death and destruction. Anger gives the enemy a foothold because if he can get you to operate out of anger or a victim mentality, he can keep feeding you lies.
The way to battle in prayer is to:
- Repent and confess that anger has infiltrated your thought life and impacts the way you speak and act.
- Renounce the spirit by the blood of the Yeshua.
- Proclaim the power of life and forgiveness you have in Yeshua.
“Therefore, putting away lying, let each one of you speak truth with his neighbor, for we are members of one another. Be angry, and do not sin. Do not let the sun go down on your wrath, nor give place to the devil” (Eph. 4:25-27).
Make Way for Fresh Water
These attacks come at you the hardest right before a spiritual promotion. But you don’t have to come into agreement and let them land on you! Proclaim today that the spiritual dryness you’ve been experiencing has to be removed in the name of Yeshua. Declare who God is and who you are.
Proclaim These Truths Today
- According to Isaiah 12:3, I will draw water from the wells of salvation with joy!
- According to Isaiah 44:3, Lord, You will pour water on the thirsty land and into my thirsty soul. Pour out a fresh anointing of the Spirit and bless my family and me.
- According to Revelation 21:6, Yeshua, You are the Alpha and the Omega, and will give water to the thirsty without cost.
- According to Psalm 23:2, Lord God, You will lead me beside quiet and refreshing waters.
- According to Isaiah 58:11, Lord, You always guide me through and satisfy my needs in a sun-scorched land. You make me like a well-watered garden and a spring whose water never fails.
