The Multiplication Mindset Is Found in the Roots of Your Faith

A powerful benefit of living in covenant and being empowered by the Father is to walk with a multiplication mindset.

As you seek the roots of your faith, you will find the depths and blessings of covenant living are abundant, and multiplication is a given.

What Is the Multiplication Mindset?

The multiplication mindset is:

Adopting and living by the mindset that God equips and desires for you to expand your blessings, creates abundance for His kingdom purposes.

When you are in covenant with God, you have rights and responsibilities.

You have a right to every heavenly blessing in Christ … Every blessing! Not just some … but all!

—”Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ” (Eph. 1:3).

You have a responsibility to follow His commandment to be fruitful and multiply (Gen. 1:22).

The multiplication mindset is a lifestyle of stewardship towards all that God has entrusted to you. Every perfect gift is from your heavenly Father (James 1:17). Don’t be fooled into thinking that you can’t accept or don’t have a right to God’s blessings.

The Multiplication Mindset Is in Your Spiritual DNA

The multiplication mindset is rooted in our spiritual DNA. The Jewish people understood that blessings were part of their covenant relationship with God. God instructed them to bring tithes and firstfruits. They did this with the expectation that He would be faithful to His promises (Mal. 3:10).

He didn’t instruct them to wait to see if they had enough and bring Him their leftovers. No! He said test Me and try Me. He promised they would always have enough when they acted in faith and followed His instructions.

You can never out-give the giver of every good gift!

What Stands in the Way of a Multiplication Mindset?

Somewhere along the way, we allowed the idea of lack to infiltrate our thought life. We’ve been fed messages that abundance is a bad thing. Therefore, we’ve translated this to mean wealth is evil.

It is the love of money, which is greed, that is evil (1 Tim. 6:10). Not wealth itself.

The Bible talks about money more than any other subjection except salvation. God gave us instructions to manage and steward our finances, and every other blessing, so that we can use it for His kingdom purposes.

The Word tells us that God desires to see us prosper and be successful, not to walk in lack and failure (Prov. 21:20, Josh. 1:8).

Therefore, believing that abundance is evil, which a spirit of lack, stands in the way of a multiplication mindset.

Where Is the Multiplication Mindset in Your Faith Roots?

—Reaping and Sowing

There is an Old Testament principle that needs to sink into your mind … when you give, you multiply.

God designed a system laid out in Leviticus 19:9-10 and Deuteronomy 24:19-22.

In short, the principle is this: When you reap a harvest, leave some for the poor, widow, fatherless and sojourner to reap. God will bless you and them. His blessings and gifts are multiplied among His people!

When you leave some for others to reap, it allows them to work with dignity and helps you remember everything you have is from God.

When you live in this way, you are aligning with the Father’s giving nature and following Jesus’ instruction in Mark 12:30-31. When you allow others to glean from the field of your life, you will never do without.

—Acting in Faith

Another Old Testament principle is this … when you obey, you multiply.

God wants you to step out and faith, trusting, believing and obeying His Word.

A multiplication mindset comes with a risk, to trust that God will do what He says. In order to have a testimony of faith, you must first have a test.

Take a look at the passage in 1 Kings 17:7-16. A widow, who had no bread, had an assignment to feed the prophet Elijah. She explained that she lacked what it took to deliver on the assignment.

Elijah told her, “‘Do not fear; go and do as you have said, but make a little cake for me first, and bring it to me, and afterward, make some for your son and you, for thus says the Lord God of Israel: The barrel of meal will not run out, nor will the jar of oil empty, until the day that the Lord sends rain upon the earth'” (1 Kings 17:13-14, emphasis added).

She acted according to the Word, and Elijah, she and her household ate for days. If she acted on what she saw rather than obeying, the blessing would not have been multiplied.

How to Change Your Lack Mindset to a Multiplication Mindset

  1. Battle in the opposite spirit. Planting seeds of hope, love, mercy and generosity, even when you feel lack, disarms the enemy, multiplies your influence and magnifies your testimony of Jesus.
  2. Give. Take the example of the miracle of the five loaves and two fishes (Matt. 14:13-21). Even the tiniest amount was more than enough when surrendered to Jesus.
  3. Be a wise steward. You have a responsibility to seek God’s wisdom when sowing. He wants you to give cheerfully, not from a place of guilt or manipulation.
