A recent episode of the MAPS Global podcast on the Charisma Podcast Network wraps up the discussion of R.A. Martinez’s book, The Joseph Journey: What Every Pioneer Needs To Know with a step off the normal path into the world of unhealthy leadership strategies and what we can learn from them.
The New Testament authors knew that when you’re following a leader you have to learn to not “just listen to what they say,” but “consider the outcome of how they live,” Martinez says. And he has learned that “what you were looking for when you look at leaders is consistency.”
There is much to be learned from the successful leaders in the New Testament, Martinez says, but “We also have to talk about what happens or what is formed under unhealthy leaders.”
Take Judah for instance. Martinez tells us that Judah lived in a “culture that breeds every vile practice.”
And in his quest to becoming a leader, Judah struggled because as Martinez points out, “Whether he wants to or not, [Judah] can only replicate what he is.” Culture can only imitate what the leader puts into it, or as Martinez puts it: it “has to be who you are, not just what you say.”
To learn what wisdom you can gain from the seven characteristics of the culture created under Judah, listen to the full episode here. {eoa}
