What does it look like when God’s manifest presence fills a city or a region? Many of us approach our relationship with God in a personal and individualistic way, but God is inviting us all to think bigger. The Holy Spirit is lifting our eyes past our personal struggles, so we can dream with God about His kingdom invading cities and nations.
King David tapped into a God-sized dream for the nation of Israel. He was burning with a desire to find a dwelling place for God’s presence on the earth.
“I will not come into my house, nor go up to my bed; I will not give sleep to my eyes, or slumber to my eyelids, until I find a place for the Lord, a dwelling for the mighty God of Jacob” (Ps. 132:3-5).
As Christians, we have personal access to God’s presence, power and Spirit through Christ Jesus. This is incredible, but that is not the primary topic here. David’s vision was not mainly about his personal breakthrough. He was longing for something to impact his city and nation. He was longing for corporate breakthrough and revival. He wanted the entire nation to experience what he had already experienced in his personal relationship with God.
In historic revivals in places such as Wales, it was not uncommon for people to enter into certain cities where revival was taking place and begin to cry and repent of their sins as they entered into the city. God’s presence was so palpable in a particular area that when people entered that area, they encountered God. And even now, across the earth, God is raising up “presence pioneers” like David who are carving out space for God’s manifest presence in their cities, campuses and nations through day and night prayer and worship.
How far would King David go to see God’s presence in his nation? What sacrifices would he be willing to make to see heaven come to earth? And what sacrifices are we willing to make for our city and nation? Learn more on Episode 55 of the Presence Pioneers podcast on the Charisma Podcast Network. {eoa}
