A massive asteroid named Apophis—also known as Apous—is raising fresh concerns among both scientists and Christian prophecy experts.
Originally discovered in December 2004, Apophis measures about 1,200 feet wide, roughly the size of the Empire State Building. When astronomers calculated its trajectory, it appeared to be on a potential collision course with Earth in the coming decades. Now, Prophecy Watchers host Mondo Gonzales is recounting Tom Horn’s prior prophecies regarding Apophis, which hinted that this asteroid may be the very Wormwood described in the Book of Revelation.

Apophis is scheduled for a dangerously close flyby on Apr. 13, 2029—a date that happens to fall on a Friday the 13th. The asteroid will come within 20,000 miles of Earth, passing between our planet and some of the satellites that orbit it. While NASA has downplayed the risk of impact, stating the asteroid is unlikely to hit Earth, concerns persist. Some scientists warn that if Apophis enters a gravitational “keyhole” during its 2029 pass, its trajectory could shift—setting up a possible impact on a later orbit in 2036 or even 2067.
But this isn’t just a scientific curiosity. Dr. Tom Horn, a respected Christian author and prophetic voice who passed away in 2023, claimed he received a vision from the Lord warning of a coming asteroid strike. In that vision, he heard the word “Apous”—a Greek rendering that aligns with the asteroid’s name and suggests deeper biblical significance. Horn eventually identified Apophis as the Wormwood of Revelation 8, which describes a star falling from heaven, poisoning a third of Earth’s waters and causing many to perish.

Horn was convinced the connection was divinely inspired, and he wasn’t alone. In interviews with SkyWatch TV, figures like Derek Gilbert and Josh Peck explored how Apophis could fulfill this prophecy. They noted that if Wormwood strikes around the midpoint of the seven-year tribulation, then counting back 3.5 years from April 2029 would place the beginning of the tribulation around October 2025—just months from now.
While Gonzales noted that Horn had not received from the Lord a specific date for the impact, he remained firmly convinced that Apophis is Wormwood. This leaves room for multiple possibilities: 2029 may be the critical moment, or a later return in 2036 or 2067 may hold the key.

The idea that a known asteroid could play a role in biblical end-time events is sobering. The convergence of astronomy, prophecy and unfolding world events is hard to ignore. Through it all, one thing is clear: the heavens are declaring signs that demand attention.
