This year the 40-day Jewish repentance season of Teshuvah comes as we are preparing for revival.

Teshuvah occurs during the 40 days beginning the first day of the sixth month of the biblical religious calendar, Aug, 4, 2024, and ending on the Day of Atonement, on the 10th day of the seventh month. Note that this is a month earlier this year than the Orthodox Jewish calendar.

Last year the Teshuvah season prepared us to pray for repentance leading up to God’s sign in the heavens, a solar eclipse, on Oct. 14, 2023. The Lord responded to our prayers for repentance by exposing evil in America and the church and pushing back the tide of lawlessness which threatens to engulf America.

Teshuvah is a compound word consisting of the Hebrew Tashan, meaning “return,” and hey, the last letter of the JHVH name for God. The hey in JHVH represents the Shekinah, or manifest presence of God. Thus, Teshuvah is a time to return to the presence of God. It is also understood that returning to God is accompanied by repentance. For Christians, these 40 days are an invitation to repent and enter into unity with God through the blood of Christ. However, for the unrepentant, Teshuvah is a solemn warning of judgment.

Then, on April 8, 2024, God parted the clouds for the Great American Eclipse of 2024. The whole nation experienced the awesome presence of God. We are reminded of Peter’s message that eclipses are signs of the outpouring of the Holy Spirit and salvation (Acts 2:17-21).

The word we got on April 8, 2024, was “God Says Go.” So let us prepare ourselves as workers in God’s vineyard to be ready for revival during these first 10 days of Teshuvah.
