What do you rely upon? Who gives you strength to continue through life’s chaotic struggles?
Most likely a person’s name immediately came to your mind, someone who is very supportive and encouraging. But have you had times when no one was available? It is a very lonely place, and many are experiencing it right now.
Several years ago, I went to Israel. Initially the planned trip included meeting my friend who would travel across the ocean with me. The plans changed abruptly due to a hurricane, and both of us were rerouted, which caused us to travel alone to other countries before we finally reached our destination.
My trip included meeting two people who were going to Israel, but I soon discovered I was caught in a whirlwind of confusion. For five hours, we were interrogated, searched and then held separately before we were allowed to board the plane. I was in another country, alone, unsure about why I was being held and treated with suspicion, fearful about what was going to happen. I had no one to depend on except the Holy Spirit. Peace came over me, and even while I was being searched, I knew I would be safe.
Eventually, I was given all my belongings and escorted onto the plane. I arrived in Israel after midnight, alone unsure about my next connection. Every step of the way, I trusted in the Holy Spirit to direct me. Throughout this journey, I carried peace even when I was sitting on a bulletproof bus going through dangerous territory.
Walking in the Holy Spirit is more reliable than human wisdom. Do I understand why God put me through such an adventure? Not at all, but this I do know: I had to rely totally on him.
Whatever you are going through, whatever separations are taking place, God has you. Remember, when we rely on man’s wisdom, there will be limitations. When we rely on the Holy Spirit, the possibilities are limitless in how God protect us. He covers us and keeps us safe, regardless of the danger surrounding us. Most importantly, He provides wisdom to guide us through.
