The impartation of the gift of prophecy is for all Christians. Based on this Scripture, all Christians should have the ability to prophesy:
“Follow after love and desire spiritual gifts, but especially that you may prophesy” (1 Cor. 14:1).
Why would God ask us to do something that we cannot do? In the church today, my experience has been that certain people have the gift, and other people do not. But according to the Bible, all of us should desire the gift of prophecy. Again, I don’t think it would be very fair or fatherly for God to ask us to desire something He would never give to us. I know I would never do that with my children.
Throughout Scripture, prophecy has been God speaking to mankind. God’s voice is the most important thing the church needs to hear. God gives us spiritual gifts for our benefit. The Bible says they are for the common good. (See 1 Cor. 12:7.)
When we are sick, the gift of healing is undoubtedly needed. There are times when we absolutely must have a miracle. Faith is required to move a mountain that is blocking our way. But out of all these gifts, the most important thing is hearing what God has to say.
God is an answer for everything. He is our life-changer, our provider, our protector and our creator. So, the point of this is yes, all of us should desire to prophesy.
As Christians, if we can hear God’s voice, for which there is no excuse, we can prophesy. Jesus said, “My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me” (John 10:27). Prophecy is only hearing God and then repeating what you heard Him say.
I think we make the gift too mysterious instead of using common sense. Our heavenly Father is speaking to us, and we need to listen. Prophecy is the most important spiritual gift for a powerful reason. I believe all Spirit-filled Christians can prophesy. In my show, I want to talk about how to be imparted and activate this vital gift. Honestly, if we do not desire this gift, we are in disobedience to God.
