When I was filled with the Holy Spirit many years ago, I knew my Southern Baptist mother probably wouldn’t be happy about my Pentecostal experience. She and I shared the same core beliefs in Jesus and salvation, or course. But I knew that some Christian denominations don’t encourage believers to be baptized in the Holy Spirit or to practice the spiritual gifts mentioned in the New Testament.

So I didn’t share my testimony with her for a few years. I’ll never forget the day my mother learned of my experience. After she told me a story from her childhood, in which she witnessed some Christians “rolling in the sawdust” at a backwoods Pentecostal meeting, she widened her eyes and asked: “You don’t speak in tongues, do you, Lee?”

“Yes, mama, I do,” I said. I didn’t apologize for my experience, even though she was visibly horrified. And I reminded her that I received the baptism of the Holy Spirit while praying at our Southern Baptist church in suburban Atlanta. I first spoke in tongues on Baptist property!

Prophetic Word: Get Positioned to Run in 2023

I saw a vision of a runner preparing to take off running, and I heard the Lord say, “Tell My people to position themselves to run in 2023. I am bringing supernatural acceleration.” Immediately my attention was drawn to the word “position.”

What did it mean? What message was the Lord seeking to convey by using that word?

As a runner who runs eight to 10 miles most days, I am well-versed in the prerequisites for a long-distance run. The first thing required is choosing the right place to run. People would look at me strangely if I took off running full speed in the middle of a department store. The second thing a runner must do is to acquire the proper shoes in which to run. A runner can injure their feet without the proper support. The third thing to do so that a runner can run with speed and distance is to do a pre-run warmup. This is my least favorite part. However, if a runner wants to run without cramping up or injuring themselves, stretching is non-negotiable.

In the parable, a younger son asks his father for his inheritance and then goes to a far country and wastes his wealth in wild living. When he realized his mistakes, he came back to his father who welcomed him back with open arms, and celebrated his return.
