Popular prophetic Bible teacher, theologian and groundbreaking author Harold Lee “Hal” Lindsey died Nov. 25, just two days after turning 95, per his website. No official cause of death was given for Lindsey, who penned “The Late Great Planet Earth” and other eschatological titles.
Lindsey earned a Master of Theology degree at Dallas Theological Seminary and a Doctorate of Theology in 1994 from the California Graduate School of Theology. A former missionary with Campus Crusade (now Cru), he regularly taught Sunday school and spoke at Melodyland Christian Center in Anaheim, California, later speaking in venues across the globe.

“The Late Great Planet Earth” was first offered in 1970 by Christian publisher Zondervan and, after it sold half a million copies, was picked up by Bantam as a “crossover” book, bridging the gap between religious and secular audiences. Lindsey’s folksy style and embrace of popular eschatological topics from a pre-Tribulation, dispensationalist perspective appealed to the masses, and the book was translated into more than 50 languages and sold more than 35 million copies by 1999.
Lindsey wrote other books, all prophetic in nature, and also hosted television shows, including his most recent, “The Hal Lindsey Report,” broadcast on Daystar and Angel One, in which he discussed current events and issues from a prophetic perspective. His book “The 1980s: Countdown to Armageddon” also made the New York Times best-seller list. He continued to write for his own website and various publications, including Charisma News, up until his death.
