As tensions escalate between Israel and Iran, some believe the conflict unfolding in the Middle East may reflect patterns first recorded thousands of years ago in Scripture.

During a recent segment on The 700 Club, Rabbi Jason Sobel pointed to striking biblical parallels he believes are connected to the current geopolitical moment.

Gordon Robertson opened the discussion by referencing Israel’s recent military actions against Iran and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s warning about the growing threat posed by the Islamic regime.

“When Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced the attack on Iran, he said, ‘If we do not stop them now, they will become invulnerable,’” Robertson said. He added that some believe “the seeds of this war were sown far earlier than that.”

Robertson suggested that what the world is witnessing today could be “a continuation of a story that began thousands of years ago.”

A Biblical Pattern Reappearing?

Sobel believes the timing of recent events is remarkable when viewed through the lens of the Hebrew Scriptures.

“The day that the bomb dropped upon the government leaders, the Supreme Leader, the Ayatollah… Jewish people were reading a special reading from Deuteronomy that talks about blotting out the name of Amalek from under heaven and not forgetting what Amalek did,” Sobel explained.

He connected that reading to the story of Esther, where Haman—who plotted genocide against the Jewish people—came from Persia, the ancient region that corresponds with modern-day Iran.

“Haman, the first person in the Bible who wanted to commit genocide against the Jewish people, was from Persia, modern-day Iran,” Sobel said. “So they took out the modern-day Haman in the same country where he was from in ancient times.”

Sobel also pointed to what he described as a striking modern parallel involving Israel’s current prime minister.

“Who took out Haman? Who did God use? It was Mordecai and Esther. They were from the tribe of Benjamin,” he said. “Who is it today that took out the modern-day Amalek and is fighting against the modern-day Amalek in Persia? It is Benjamin Netanyahu. Another Benjamin.”

“This is not by coincidence,” Sobel added.

Prophetic Implications

Looking ahead, Sobel believes the region could experience a period of stability that may align with prophetic passages in Ezekiel.

“What I see shaping up is this: we’re going to head into an unprecedented time of peace and prosperity in the Middle East,” he said.

According to Sobel, such a season of relative peace may be necessary to fulfill the conditions described in Ezekiel 38, where Israel is portrayed as dwelling securely before a future conflict.

“That has never happened,” Sobel noted. “So there has to be a time of unprecedented peace and preparation for that.”

Trusting God’s Plan

Even when world events appear chaotic, Sobel emphasized that believers should remember God’s unseen hand at work in history.

“The name of God is not written in the book of Esther,” he explained. “It’s teaching us when you can’t see the hand of God, trust the heart of God.”

Sobel ended ultimately with a message of hope for believers watching events unfold in the Middle East.

“No matter what’s going on in the world… God is in the details,” he said. “We don’t need to fear, but we can have faith because Jesus—Yeshua won the victory.”
