Are we about to witness a major sign of the end times?

A report by the Daily Mail noted that we are about to experience something spectacular on March 3: a total lunar eclipse. This eclipse will make the moon appear “a dramatic copper-red,” as the outlet describes, turning it a blood-red color. The totality of the eclipse will be at 6:04 a.m. E.T.

However, more than just a scientific beauty and wonder, even a secular outlet is curious if this phenomenon could have a biblical implication. The Daily Mail pointed to Joel 2:31, which reads:

The sun will be turned to darkness, and the moon to blood, before the great and awe-inspiring day of the Lord comes.

They further pointed out that the moon and the end times are referenced in Acts 2:20 and Revelation 6:12, which discuss the moon turning to a blood color, writing, “Believers often interpret these verses as signs that a blood moon could herald a time of upheaval, judgment for the wicked, or salvation for the faithful…”

What is striking about this moment is not simply that a blood moon is coming—it is that even secular voices are now turning to Scripture to explain what they are seeing in the skies.

If pastors won’t talk about these subjects or quote these verses, God is now using other means to get the truth across. This blood moon eclipse, which is happening at the same time as Purim, is not a random event. Instead, it points to the reality that the Bible is not fading into obscurity. It is rising in relevance. Creation itself seems to echo what Scripture has declared all along—that the sun, moon and stars would serve as signs.

Jesus warned us to discern the times, not ignore them. If the secular world is beginning to recognize biblical language in celestial events, how much more should believers be spiritually alert? We cannot afford spiritual apathy in an hour when prophecy appears to be stepping off the page and into the night sky. Instead of fear, this is a call to readiness—to examine our hearts, strengthen our faith and boldly proclaim the gospel while there is still time.
