An armed U.S. Marshall stands outside federal court in Brooklyn before the court appearance of Tairod Nathan Webster Pugh.

A U.S. Air Force veteran has been charged with trying to provide support for the Islamic State militant group, the Department of Justice said on Tuesday.

A federal grand jury in New York City indicted Tairod Nathan Webster Pugh with attempting to provide material support to the group, also known by the acronyms ISIL or ISIS, and attempted obstruction of justice, the department said.

He is set to be arraigned tomorrow morning in the Eastern District of New York.
