Six people have been killed, including an officer, in a gun battle in Jersey City, according to reports.
One officer was shot in the head and another was shot in the shoulder. One of the officers died from their injuries and multiple other people were found dead at the scene. The incident took place in a cemetery and, later, near a Kosher market.
Police searched for the shooters—a man and a woman—and “neutralized” one of them in a Jersey City bodega, according to CNN.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with the men and women of the Jersey City Police Department, especially with the officers shot during this standoff, and with the residents and schoolchildren currently under lockdown,” tweeted Gov. Phil Murphy.
The New Jersey State PBA sent out a tweet asking for prayers:
“Today is a horrific day. Officers have come under attack and we have several wounded. Our hearts are heavy and the violence is not over. We need prayers.”
